Forget generic restaurant reviews; we help users find the best version of the dish they’re craving. Think TikTok meets Grab, but powered by dish-level data, AI-driven recommendations, and a purpose-led community.

We’re looking for a Lead Developer who can take ownership of our technical stack, guide the development team, and help us scale the Kulaa platform to the next level. This is a freelance leadership contract, ideal for a hands-on builder who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven environments.

What You’ll Do
Take ownership of Kulaa’s backend and system architecture, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance

Design, build, and deploy backend systems using Spring Boot, Redis, MongoDB, and Docker

Lead development efforts & provide technical direction

Develop and maintain RESTful APIs powering Kulaa’s web and mobile platforms

Collaborate closely with product, design, and frontend teams to bring ideas to life

Integrate external systems such as restaurant POS, analytics, and third-party data sources

Ensure clean architecture, testing coverage, and production reliability

Contribute ideas, challenge assumptions, and drive continuous improvement across the stack

What We’re Looking For
Proven experience as a Lead Developer or Senior Backend Engineer, ideally in startup or marketplace environments

Strong expertise in Spring Boot and REST API architecture with proper validation and exception handling

Excellent understanding of MongoDB and database optimisation techniques

Hands-on experience with Docker and containerised deployment workflows

Familiarity with Azure Cloud Services or other major cloud platforms

Strong grasp of software design principles, modular architecture, and security (JWT, RBAC)

Excellent communication and leadership skills — you can align technical execution with business goals

Self-motivated, resourceful, and passionate about building great products that matter

Contract Details
Type: Freelance contract (not employment)

Compensation: 30–45M IDR per month (depending on experience)

Duration: 3 months for this project (with potential for extension)

Location: Remote — ideally within a similar timezone to Bali (GMT+8)

Start Date: November 1st (negotiable)
